1. Calming Techniques That Work: Meditation

Meditation comes in a variety of forms. You can use visualization to relax and recharge your mind. Deep breathing is another technique to help loosen tight muscles.

Breathing meditations can curb an oncoming panic attack. Meditation allows you to tune into your body. Your body becomes a messenger that tells you whats most affecting you in your life.

Here are some common examples:

  • Tension headaches. People feel tightness in the shoulders and neck throughout their day. It's important to meditate and focus on breathing to release stress.
  • Back pain. Also borne from tight muscles, back pain could be a sign of sitting down for too long. Those who have desk jobs often suffer from back pain or hip discomfort. A mixture of meditation and yoga can help ease stress and strengthen muscles.
  • Fatigue. Meditation at least once during the day will help you recharge. For those that struggle with mid-afternoon exhaustion, take a break. Do a quick ten-minute mediation. This'll recharge your energies, and get you through your busy workday.

Modern day stress is taxing on the mind, body, and soul. The good news is that we're able to tackle that stress head-on. If meditation doesn't work for you, try out our next technique.

2. Walking

We all know that exercise releases endorphins that make us feel happier. Likewise, walking can help ease any worries you have. Walking expels negative energy, so you can vent that stress.

Walking is also great for reaching homeostasis in the body. After consistent walking, your body will start to regulate any imbalances. This works on hormones and helps keep you on track.

To give your body an extra hand, eat healthier foods that have little to no preservatives. Aim for foods with the least chemicals and caffeine for better results.

3. Music Therapy

You may have heard of binaural beats. These beats work with your brain waves to calm your central nervous system. In fact, there are a plethora of benefits to listening to binaural beats every day.

Different decibels can decrease your anxiety, stress, and even migraine headaches. Crank up that spa music and get to relaxing! For the most effective relaxation, we recommend combining music therapy and meditation.

You might also try soaking a warm bath with Epsom salts. The goal is to wash you sense clean of any stress, so expose your senses to other things.

4. Mindless Art

Are you an overthinker with buzzing thoughts that won't stop? Many of us suffer from anxious thoughts, and we all struggle with relaxing once they strike. Don't give up yet, here's a creative solution.

Mindless art is a positive way to release tension, and let go of stubborn thoughts. All it takes is a canvas and some paint. Don't worry about perfection when trying to relax.

Instead, let your paintbrush glide over the canvas without direction. On a smaller scale, you might try doodling. You can do this at the office when tension runs high and you need a quick decompressor.

5. HIIT

While HIIT workouts seem counterintuitive to relaxation, they're key for reaching zen! The best way to relax is to expel the negative energy that is stuck within us. Are you someone that feels anxious, angry, or tense?

Try a morning HIIT body workout for a complete adrenaline rush! After the workout, your muscles are sore ready to relax. Plus, the cardio is excellent for the body.

Some benefits of high-intensity workouts include:

  • Better digestion
  • Deeper sleep
  • More energy

For those that are getting back into exercise, remember to start slow and listen to your body. It's okay to start off easy, even if it's ten minutes a day. Listen to your body to avoid sprains or burnout.

6. Aromatherapy

In case you need a reason to burn a scented candle, we've got another for you! Smells like lavender can help your mind relax and lower your cortisol levels. Make the perfect relaxation spot in your home for a warm bath, music, and candle burning.

Depending on the scent you choose, you'll notice different effects. These are some examples that produce relaxation:

  • Jasmine
  • Eucalyptus Spearmint
  • Pine
  • Vanilla

You want to remember to choose a candle with enough scent to swamp your smelling sense. The goal is to force your mind into another environment—a relaxation space.

7. A Picnic with Friends

Most people want to be alone when they're stressed to the max. Yet, this could lead to isolation and worsening of stress. Remember to go out, laugh, and have fun!

Enjoying nature at a small picnic with a close friend can rejuvenate your spirit! Chatting and laughing helps take your mind off stressful thoughts. But more important than that, it keeps you in the present.

Let your mind relax and unplug from phones! It's tempting to check emails, but that only brings back the stress. To achieve your zen, you got to let go for a while.

8. Journaling

This needs to be a consistent practice to show results. Finding peace in your life is not an easy task, and the solutions take effort. Journal every day about events or thoughts that upset you.

Use the paper as a way to expel the tense, and aim to write positive elements. Have a goal of finishing all your entries on a positive note. You'll find with time, your mentality will start to improve, and you'll feel lighter!
